The Great Composites Ride to JEC 2022: An Update and Call for Sponsors
Fluency Managing Director, Gemma Smith, along with R-Tech Materials Director of Composites Testing, Geraint Havard, will be taking up the challenge to cycle from London to Paris in time for JEC World this May. Co-hosts of the Material Evolution podcast, Gemma and Geraint are preparing to cycle the 550km distance in support and raising funds for the mental health charity, Mind—a charity both riders have passionately supported over previous years, and one that lies close to Gemma’s heart.
Providing support and advice to those experiencing mental health problems, Mind avidly campaigns for the improvement of mental health services and the care that is given, while continuing to raise awareness and understanding of emotional well-being that affects people of all ages.
Gemma spoke about the uphill challenge: “I am by no means a long-distance cyclist, and this journey will fare as one of the hardest trials of my life. But for a great cause like Mind, a charity that is so important and close to my heart, I am grateful to just be given this chance, and I will ride like an Olympic athlete if it means I’m helping those that need our support!”
With the challenge to cycle to Paris, Gemma and Geraint hope the industry will support their efforts and help raise a magnificent £10,000 for a journey that will take the amateur cyclists over 3 days to complete! Along with donations, Fluency are making a call for sponsor logos to be featured on the riders’ apparel; a main sponsor slot in large on the back of the shirt and many smaller spots on the front of the top, starting at £250. With Mental Health Awareness Month right around the corner, it has never been more significant for both Gemma and Geraint to try and raise all they can for their charity.
Geraint Havard said: “As the challenge nears clo
ser, I am filled with apprehension but also immense pride, for although this journey will most likely exhaust me, it is all the more worth it for the cause of mental well-being. After the last two years of a pandemic, now more than ever people need our help and the support of a fantastic charity like Mind.”
Along with donations that can be made to www.justgiving.com/fundraising/londontojec, businesses can offer their show of support through corporate sponsorship on the cycling apparel. Visit www.fluency-group.com to find out how.
Lastly, Gemma and Geraint ask that any show of support will be greatly appreciated, from sharing their challenge on social media to cheering them on along their route.
